PERSONAL RESERVES: Professors submit personal copies of books, readers, videos, DVDs, and audio CDs. These can be distinguished by their call number, which is usually the last name of the instructor followed by a digit, i.e. CASPER 12. These circulate for varying times, ranging from 2-hour, 3-hour, or 1 day loans.

LEAVEY BOOK SORTING SHELVES: These shelves are labelled according to the beginning letters of the call numbers assigned to the books. These are are part of our “regular collection” housed on the FOURTH LEVEL. In addition, these shelves also allow for sorting the following:

BOUND PERIODICALS

DRAMA BOOKS

McNAUGHTON COLLECTION

NEW BOOKS

GREAT BOOKS
(Note: Regular books will be stamped either as LEAVEY LIBRARY or COLLEGE LIBRARY.)

PERMANENT RESERVES: This is the collection of course reserves comprised of books that belong to the university libraries. These books come from all the libraries on campus. These books are distinguished by the yellow tape with the red RESERVE type of them.

VIDEO COLLECTION: Our collection is composed of VHS tapes and DVDs. Tapes begin with the call number LVYVID; DVDs begin with the call LVYDVD. These items must be shelved when not in use.

CD-ROMs: These items are attached to books and have the same call number as the books they accompany, except for the designation CD-ROM at the end of the call number. If the book is 4WEEK/SEMESTER, the CD-ROM will also be. If the book is LIBRARY USE ONLY, the CD-ROM will only circulate for four hours.

Christopher Chavez: Sorting Shelves

The sorting shelves behind the circulation desk serve several purposes and are divided by the following sections.

In addition, these shelves also allow for sorting the BOUND PERIODICALS, DRAMA BOOKS, McNAUGHTON COLLECTION, NEW BOOKS, and GREAT BOOKS collections.

MICRODISKS: These items vary: they can be language instruction, software, audio programs, or audio/visual presentation on CD-ROM. These have varying circulation times.
